1 out of 5 stars Rail Simulator   November 15, 2009

I purchased this product after using Trainz Simulator 2006 and 2004. Rail Simulator will not even load on my computer, which is strange in that Trainz Simulator does and works really great. I tried to contact the company and EA also, and nobody returned my messages. This product is junk! I keep getting a message that I have to have Windows 2000, or Windows XP to use it, and I have both! Trainz Simulator requires more than Rail Simulator, yet Trainz Simulator works just fine on my computer. Not recommended at all, I'm very unhappy with Rail Works.

This was bought as a gift for my grandson, he has spent hours of enjoyment driving the trains. He loved it.

4 out of 5 stars GREAT GAME!!!!! but a few missed details   June 28, 2009

Overall, rail simulator is a great game. I own trainz 2006, trainz classics, msts, and most recently Kuju rail simulator. I am impressed with many aspects of the game, but some small aspects could be better.

Graphics: Big step up from any of the other simulators. Actual people getting on and off the trains and actual engineers in the cabs is cool too.

Sounds: again BIG step up from all other sims...but there are just a few small issues. In the Cojon Pass route, the SD40-2 locomotive does not have a bell. I wish also that the two engines that come with the Cojon pass route had different sounds, but that is just a minor issue. But other than that sounds are great!!!

Overall gameplay: would definatly recommend to anybody looking for a realistic rail adventure! Will have hours of enjoyment. With the exception of a few issues....AWESOME GAME!!!!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Rail Simulator   June 23, 2009

Although I do not enjoy the PC version of Model Railroading nearly as much as running my own setup, it is a pretty good simulator. The biggest fault that I found, was the commands need to be a little more simplified, at least for begining simulator railroaders. Too many commands and signaling requirements puts beginners in a sort of quandry, then frustration sets in, and they don't want to indulge in the repitions of commands for their railroad to be successful, and therefore either blame the manufacturer of the product, or themselves and don't do what the simulator's intent is, which is to relax and enjoy the fruits of their efforts. Compared to Microsoft Train Simulator, this one has much better landscapes for the Cajon Pass route.
Overall it operates more smoothly on my PC, although, I have an older PC to be sure.
I would recommend MORE than the MINIMUM PC to run this simulator at a satisfactory level.
I understand that a replacement for this simulator is to be released in June and is being advertised as the BEST SIM ever.
Time will tell.
If a company really took the time to LISTEN to us folks out here that really enjoy this type of simulator, I would think the sky would be the limit.
There is a HUGE potential here to blow the lid off this type of simulation if they allow feedback and let the folks in the SIM community to really have input.
Enjoy.
