Product Description
What does it take to bring the entire Island of Sodor Railway System to a halt? Just a crack in the track. Well, a crack in the track and some hail on the rail . . . and a toad in the road, and a fuss on the bus. In fact, one thing leads to another until just about everything that can go wrong does go wrong. Luckily, there’s a breakdown train with a couple of cranes that can fix a big mess!

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Great Beginner Book   March 1, 2008
This is one of the much needed board books their so durable and this story is so cute with a really good lesson for boys or girls. I add my own little extra noises to make it more interesting like some "choo choos" and "ribbit ribbits" when theres the bright green toad it makes it all the more fun and as far as board books go this is great cause its a full little story not just 3 words per page. Go Thomas Go!

5 out of 5 stars Catchy and Memorable   January 14, 2008
My youngest daughter, age 2.5, LOVES this book! We checked it out from the library several times and she would read it many times a day, so for Christmas we bought her a copy of her own. The rhymes are simple and the story entertaining. After this many repetitions, she can "read" the book on her own -- she is so excited to be able to read a book to us, since she knows all of the words on all of the pages. When she plays outside on the sidewalk, she often finds "a crack in the track," and will entertain herself by pretending to be the engines who can't move forward or back because of the crack in the track. The illustrations are lovely as well -- sometimes she studies the pictures in detail, enjoying the scenery. For a little one who enjoys rhymes and trains, this book is fantastic!

4 out of 5 stars Silly Fun for Younger Thomas Fans - a review of "A Crack In the Track" boardbook   February 8, 2006

All of Sodor comes to a halt when a `crack in the track' appears. That and a large green toad. Thomas can not go forward because of the crack, and the most familiar of his Steamie friends are stuck behind him when some silly freight cars refuse to back up. Bertie lends a hand only to be stymied by a large toad in the road.

Snip>
Suddenly, Bertie stopped.
There in the road
was a bright green toad.

Bertie's driver called out,
"There's a toad in the road!"
We will have to unload."
(That toad in the road
caused a fuss on the bus.)

Now the above rhymes make it seem as if this book is top notch, and it should be, but the rhyming is only an on-and-off thing. Sometimes it's there, and sometimes it's not. For example,

Henry the Green Engine had a boiler ache.

"Peep, peep," said Thomas.
"I can take the people
Where they want to go."

Tommy Stubbs did such a nice job illustrating this book, it's a shame the writing isn't a tad better.

Four Stars. A sturdy little board book. Thomas fans won't care one wit that the writing is second rate and that the plot is a little jumpy. All is resolved when the workers and the breakdown train arrive and fix the track. [One assumes that toad eventually hopped out of Bertie's way-LOL]
