Great book December 27, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Thomas, you look regal, handsome, and important with that snowplow...AND, you were able to be a Very Useful Engine with it. Thomas and pals are wonderful tools for teaching social skills to young children.
Nice Illustrations, But Includes Taunting Trains April 21, 2005 5 out of 12 found this review helpful
"Early one winter morning, Thomas rolled out of his shed to check the weather. It had snowed a little each day all week. It wasn't snowing just then, but the sky was gray and threatening. `Looks like we're going to have to get out your snowplow soon, Thomas', said his driver." -From the book
Because it has snowed on the Island of Sodor, Thomas needs to wear his snowplow to keep the tracks clear. He feels silly wearing a snowplow, and fears that the other engines will laugh at him. When he agrees to allow the driver to attach the snowplow, his worst fear comes true: the other engines make fun of him, calling Thomas names and touting why they don't need to wear a snowplow.
A huge snowstorm hits the Island and Toby is stuck on his branch line. Sir Topham Hatt enlists the help of the engines, but not even Henry can make it through the snow-covered tracks. Thomas remembers his snowplow, and offers to wear it so they could rescue Toby.
Thomas is declared a hero when he helps to free a grateful Toby, who exclaims "I wish a snowplow would fit over my cowcatcher!"
This story shows how our unique features can aid us in helping others...and are nothing to be ashamed of. Thomas Gets a Snowplow is beautifully illustrated, and includes 8 color stickers featuring photos of the trains.
Note: if you're not familiar with the Thomas the Tank Engine books and videos, be advised that there is name calling, humiliation, and rudeness throughout the stories-as well as the promotion of competition and one-upmanship.
My 2 year old loves this book! December 3, 2004 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
My 2.9 year old son received this book yesterday as an early Christmas present, and has been walking around the house holding it ever since! It is very well written, a great story, and the illustrations are wonderful. (Especially for a toddler that is anxiously awaiting the first large snowfall!)
