Amazon.com Liking Jordin Sparks, American Idol's season six winner, comes instinctively. How many 17-year-olds are as self-possessed, as big-smiling, as committed to having a good time and keeping it real? Probably none. Liking Sparks' music has been a different story for fans anticipating her debut CD, though. Her gut-busting Idol performance of "I (Who Have Nothing)" was possibly her only prime-time goosebump generator, yet she's seen an instant progression to diva-dom, as chronicled in reports that found her heading into the studio alongside pop/R&B heavy-hitters Bloodshy, Avant, the Underdogs, and others. Was it a little soon for the relatively green Sparks to be throwing off such big-league, beat-heavy sparks? Well, not hardly, it turns out. The ballads here--songs like "Next To You" and "Just For the Record"--reach out at times with overeager sincerity (forgivable!), but the funkier numbers--"Young and In Love" and the Prince-flecked "Shy Boy," especially--slam home her positives. Jordin may still be a juvie, but she's a bona fide pop star. She earns her props as convincingly here as she did on TV. --Tammy La Gorce

I can finally listen to a whole cd without skipping a track August 4, 2008 Excellent CD. I am confused why people are fronting on her CD. She has one of the best voices I have heard in a long time!
Every song is great. She can hold her own with any R&B artist out there.
A Really Good Cd August 1, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this cd from a store for $15.00, and it was worth every penny. I loved all the songs, and i listened to it four times in a row! Its really good. But some of my favorites are: Tattoo, One Step At a Time, No Air, Freeze, Young and In Love, See My Side. Its almost as good as Kelly Clarksons cd Thankful; but different. You should buy this cd, you wont regret it!!
Excellent CD! July 31, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Her CD was more than what I expected.. I am so happy I bought the entire thing!
No Air is going to be remembered as one awesome song July 22, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
The first time I heard Jordin sing "No Air" I was in awe. This duet is so beautiful and emotional. The rest of this album is great as well but I have to admit I bought it just for that one song. She can sing...thank goodness she took a leap and tried out for American Idol. What a waste if the world never had heard her angelic voice.
She's like a little Kelly Clarkson sometimes... July 17, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I knew that Jordin Sparks was the winner of "American Idol", but since I do not watch the show and had not heard much of her music aside from "No Air", I didn't pay much attention to her. But after I saw her open for Alicia Keys, I liked what I heard, so I wanted to buy her album and see what she was all about. She was a good performer with nice stage presence.
As a unit, this album has many genres of music interpolated within it. You have pop, R&B, country and a lot of rock. Honestly, there are many influences of Kelly Clarkson on this record, but that is understandable. She probably studied Clarkson to some extend since Clarkson won "American Idol" and Sparks won several years after. What's cool is the fact that she even sounds like Clarkson on most of these songs, but, fortunately, there is a distinction between the two lovely voices. Sparks delivers all of her songs well. She's never breathy and her vocals are very clear and she should be applauded for that. About half of the songs are impressive and the rest are mediocre or not quite mediocre. "No Air" features Chris Brown. The song took some time to get used to, but it's a nice song. Sparks and Brown sound really good together, the song is a little sappy, though. Nevertheless, it is one of the best moments on this album. There is a lot of that "space" sound on this album, sometimes it worked, sometimes it did not. "Freeze" has that sound, but I enjoy that song. It's a mid-tempo number with a nice hook and good lyrics. Besides "No Air", my other favorite song on this album is "Just For the Record." This track has a huge R&B/pop influence. I listened to that song quite a few times. "Shy Boy" and "This is My Now" are missteps, though. The lyrics on "Shy Boy" are decent and Sparks sounds great, but there is nothing outstanding at all about that song. Sparks sounded a little too much like Kelly Clarkson on "This is My Now." In fact, it sounds like "A Moment Like This." In the end, this song does not work for Sparks.
Overall, I enjoyed this piece of work. I will support this young lady in her future endeavors because she has a great spirit and lots of talent. Once she really finds her way, she could become on of music's greats.
