Thomas and his friends are getting ready for a festival. They have to prepare the rides, sort the goods coming in for the event, and even catch up with some runaway cows before the festival can take place. What's more, they can't move a piston until they're cleaned up in the engine shop. Thomas & Friends: The Great Festival Adventure offers a series of games to very young computer users starting from the age of 2. As Thomas, Harold, and the other trains and tractors prepare for the festival, they enlist player aid to do everything from keeping track of the number of passengers who can fit in a passenger car to conducting the festival band. Early sorting, color matching, and shape-recognition skills are given a workout in the process. The game also seeks to keep its young target audience engaged by including long animated sequences of Thomas going about his business, interacting with his various friends as he does. This program makes an excellent introduction to educational computer gaming for kids and parents alike. With bright, simple graphics and easy-to-run activities, it is both simple to use and varied enough to maintain player interest. Thomas fans will be delighted with the opportunity to polish up and oil the various locomotives, and the animations will provoke laughter and delight among train-loving kids. I Got this game somewhere other than a.com. I love Thomas, and this game. I like the game, but not Robin Smith. I don't mind his narrating voice, but he makes the engines sound dumb, especialy James, who just sounds plain wierd. The games are good, but they are too short in my opinion. I got this game when I was 4. I loved it, but not Robin Smith.

I recently purchased this for my son who is 32 months, just a little over 2 1/2. He loved the festival car and loves playing with it since it is colored differetly than his other trains. There are a lot of good points to this CD. First, it really has great graphics and helps the kids to use their immaginations. Several days after playing with the CD, my son was oiling and washing Thomas and acting out many of the scenes from the CD. It also helps to teach matching, plus its just all around fun for Thomas fanatics like my son. But, it does have some problems. The graphics for the matching for cranky the crane are too small. You can hardly see them. My son knows all his shapes and colors, but had a hard time matching them during this activity. The shapes cranky picks up are very small. Also, the mouse control changes with different scenes and it is very confusing for little ones. I have to control the mouse most times, except during the tractor scenes. Despite this, it is very entertaining and if allowed my son would play with this 24 hours a day. I think it really has some good points. I bought it because my son loves anything Thomas so this really has been such fun for him. It can help teach colors etc, but mostly it is just good old fun. My son has so many learning toys and I thought he just needed some "good old fun".

This game is great to look at--the trains, fields, and other graphics are beutifully rendered, as are a few video "cut-scenes." The games themselves are not very challenging and left my Thomas-crazed four-year old bored after a few times through--but he still plays it once it a while to hear the music and watch the characters. Better for smaller kids.

My 2 1/2 year old got this for Christmas and I want to make sure anyone that buys it for their toddler realizes that it is definitely "lapware," unless your toddler is already pretty adept at using the mouse. The changing cursor is somewhat confusing and hard for rookies to aim accurately. One difficulty is that it is used differently in the different areas of the game. For example, it steers Terrance the tractor without clicking in the cow chasing area, you don't click Harold to pick up the rocks in the rock fall area, but you do click Harold in the festival games area. This is not a good game to teach mouse use as a result, and does require assistance. I was not terribly excited about the skills taught in the games area, and felt that it was rushing through. For example, in the Cranky the crane area, the first level is supposed to be colors, the second, which looks identical, is color and shape, and the third is more complex wooden box shapes. I have no objection to the game promoting the advancement from easier to harder skills, but most pre-school games give more opportunities for practice before moving on. I also was irritated that the music game was not more obvious in the sounds each instrument played - it takes a keen ear to discern the banjo, for example, over the background music. My son loved the included train car and does enjoy the game - I'm the one with a problem with it. He is also used to being more independent with his games - for example, Fisher Price Toddler, and he can't be as independent with this one, which frustrates both of us.

Be careful. When they say Windows 95/98, they mean it. It doesn't run on Win2k. My son is very disappointed. He loves Thomas.Other Hasbro games, including Barney, run well on win2k, so we expected this one to work as well.
