I bought this for my DS 2nd B-day. He loves having a motorized Thomas. IT does great pulling things on flat surfaces. It does have a little bit of a hard time pulling multiple cars up hills. I bought this on clearance after christmas as it was cheaper than buying the regular battery operated Thomas. It goes through quite a few batteries, we change them about once a week, this may be due in large part to my sons age as he doesn't quite understand that you have to turn Thomas off when you are done playing with him. He has been very durable though. He got a regular Thomas a few weeks earlier for Christmas and the wooden train does show considerably more wear than this train. This train is made of all metal and quite a bit heavier than the little wooden ones. He also loves the musical car and turns it on and dances as he watches Thomas drive around the track. I am very glad we purchased this as it has increased the amount of time my son spends playing with his trains.
This little Thomas is very good at driving on almost every surface and will travel quite well on carpet. As a result, he does drive off the track if the angle is too sharp.
nice toy, engine broke after 4 weeks February 5, 2008
This is pretty typical Thomas stuff. Nothing terribly exciting, but the battery-powered engine is fun. Unfortunately, ours broken after a few weeks, and we returned it to Learning Curve for a replacement. They only have a 90-day warranty, so you'd better hope that it breaks quickly. The rest of the set is fine - the cars are plastic, and the track is what you'd expect.
Train for the tree January 14, 2008
I purchased this train for around the tree. It is a good train and I like that the Thomas car is battery powered. I would recommend it. Just be advised that you may need to add more pieces to the track if you have a larger tree.

My 2 yr old son and 3.5 yr old daughter love this train. No wires, no sanding down metal tracks, no maintenance, and very safe. Enough tracks to circle the tree without a skirt. Would highly recommend.

My two year old is obsessed with Thomas the Tank Engine. I was so excited to see that Thomas was available in an Around the Tree playset. My son loves to watch it go around the tree and I feel this will be part of a special holiday tradition for many years to come. The train track is interchangeable with other wooden track so we were able to customize a track specifically for our tree. We were also surprised to see that the battery operated Thomas was able to pull not only the cars that come with it but also some additional cars and trains that my son added. The delivery came quickly and the product was exactly as described. We are happy with this purchase.
