This gate is perfect, not only does it keep the baby from getting up the stairs it also keeps the dog from rushing the door.

Great gate--have an earlier version by the same manufacturer as well. However, in less than two minutes my Jack Russell terrier figured out how to open the new gate and get out. I've nicknamed her Hannah Houdini.
What a lifesaver July 23, 2008
Altho it took more than 5 minutes to get set up straight - the gate is as advertised.
Solid, strong and high enough to keep even a bouncing Jack Russell from getting over it.
The gate works easily making passing from one side to the other a breeze.
I wish I had thought of this sooner but couldn't believe a gate for under 100 bucks would really hold up to the intense pressure two warring pups would put on it.
So far, not a slip, or a move - I wouldn't hesitate to buy this gate again.

It is tall. As soon as you grasp the opening mechanism (which is easy) it works the way it should. It serves its purpose well.
