My grandson just loved this xmas morning. He was fascinated with the sounds.
Attractive, Expensive, Disappointing Quality November 29, 2005 25 out of 50 found this review helpful
We have had this train set for almost a year now. The reason I give it such a low rating is because it is so overpriced for the quality. My son loves to play with the Thomas Trains (not the tracks). The tracks don't fit together well. They look odd and slanted, and fit together only loosely. When the train comes down the mountain, it sometimes hits one of the track pieces sticking up and then derails. When I spoke to the toy store about it, they said all tracks in this set are the same, and that the problem with the track derailing can be avoided by putting the tracks on a Thomas Train Table. We have carpeting in our house, so I guess this is bumpier, but I didn't appreciate hearing that an $80.00 train set only works well if I buy a $250.00 matching train table! For this expensive price you would really expect good workmanship. My son also has the Fisher Price Geo Trax set and we are much happier with that than with the Thomas Set. It costs half the price, and you can often find it on sale. It doesn't look as pretty and classic as a wooden train set, but it works much better.
