The idea is to get started with the UBFunkey Starter Set. As well as two regular UBFunkeys this contains a large USB-friendly UBFunkey that acts as your hub to Funkeytown. Each time you connect a new UBFunkey to the UBFunkey Hub you unlock a new zone containing new games and puzzles. The more UBFunkeys you collect the more zones you can explore. And the rarer the UBFunkey, the more crucial the zone it unlocks. But that's just the tip of the virtual iceberg because Funkeytown is in turmoil and it needs your help. A disaster has caused the town's portal transport system to malfunction. And to make matters worse, the villainous Master Lox has locked several portals and sent his evil henchmen out to rob the UBFunkeys. By completing various missions, avoiding the Henchmen and collecting crystals you can help defeat the resident evil-doer and restore law and order to Funkeytown. Play games in the virtual gameroom! If you're worried that Funkeytown sounds a little manic, worry not. Along the way you can earn coins to buy items for your 'crib' and show it off online to fellow UBFunkey fans. And the items you 'win' are themed to match your UBFunkey. So if you have a skeleton-themed UBFunkey, you might get a bone chair as a reward. There are currently eight different UBFunkey Tribes available. Each Tribe has three different colors of UBFunkey ranging from 'common' to 'rare' to 'very rare'. You can select which Tribe to buy but you never know which color of UBFunkey you are going to get - and that's what makes collecting them such fun.

Received the wrong item twice...lotus and deuce instead of new dream state funkeys. My son is very disappointed. He absolutely loves funkeys and we can't wait for the chat and dream state funkeys. Unfortunately for amazon we will not be using them for future purchases of the funkeys.

We purchased this product a while ago on a fluke and have since become addicted to collecting all the different characters. My kids are 4 and 7 and both love playing the games and finding new Funkeys when we visit Toys R Us, Walmart or Target. We have the majority of the characters and agree that to fully enjoy the game, you have to buy the different Funkeys for each land. We spend more on Dunkin Donuts in a week than what it costs for one Funkey so I don't mind buying a little at a time as we find them or collecting/saving for the holidays and giving them to the kids as gifts. Some of the games are easy and some I find very difficult. We have never had a problem with not being able to play because our Funkey gets dirty. There are 4 cleaning stations in the mainland (Terrapinnia) alone and if you have access to other lands, there are cleaning stations there as well. We don't own an Xbox or Wii, which when all is said and done would be more expensive to keep up with (the unit and games) than buying Funkeys. My kids love the challenge of earning crystal chards, trophies and solving some of the mysteries of the lands (e.g. Funkiki Island). We like that there is so much to do and that they keep coming up with new games/lands. We did not have any trouble installing it and there are independent online forums that are quite good for getting tips on playing or software problems. The only drawback I find to this product is that many of our local stores do not carry an extensive amount of the characters. It is hit or miss for you to find what you are looking for (but fun when you do find one that you don't have). I have had to resort to eBay for some of them. All in all, would highly recommend this game if you are willing to buy the characters a little at a time to build your collection.

Horrible experience... Amazon messed up my order twice, and they kept sending me the Funkeys Starter Kit with Lotus & Deuce- TWICE!! Imagine the disappointment when I received the wrong order TWICE!! Spent several hours on the phone with representatives, but management doesn't seem to care.
The problem essentially is this: they have the wrong ASIN # on this product, so whoever orders this will be receiving the Funkeys Starter Kit with Lotus and Deuce. I ordered 4 of this product and lo and behold, wrong Product ID's. I called customer service to give them a heads up to fix the problem, but it doesn't seem like they did anything about it.
SHAME ON AMAZON!! Very disappointed!!

My kids got the starter kit 4 days ago and have since gone to 4 different stores looking for new characters. At $5-$8 a pop they have purchased 7 new ones in just 3 days. They have been hooked-until today. Immediately after the Login process a screen pops up asking you if you want to create a unique user ID for chats etc. If you select "no" it tells you that you will not be able to participate in many features of the product. My 10 year old decided to go ahead and create this new user ID. It does tell you at the end of the process that this will replace your old login info..no problem right? WRONG!! At login only original user IDs are available for selection, you cannot type in this new ID that was just created, therefore you can no longer gain access to your acct. After searching the website & google to figure out how to fix this, I discovered this is a universal problem with the system & there is no solution. The only thing I can think to do is reinstall the software which will force all 3 of my kids to start from scratch. And we will still have to deal with the pop up at login at the beginning of every game. With my 5 year old playing this game, I am sure we will find tgame (aside from the fact that you have to keep buying new characters to progress in the games), but today I say, my kids wasted a whole lot of their money & I hope they will consider returning these to the stores!!!

I purchased the Speed Racer starter pack for my son's 9th birthday. I was well aware that in order to experience the world of Terrapinia, there would be more purchased of Funkeys, so I was sort of ok with that.
However, now that I've watched my son play, I don't think I'll be buying anymore Funkeys.
The main thing that really irritates me is, not only do they limit the world you can experience based upon your financial freedom (if you can't afford them, then you can't experience the entire world), but also they manage to limit play time! If your Funkey gets dirty enough, you get barred from playing! And... you can only clean your Funkey ONCE a day!
So Mattel has basically forced us to continue to purchase new Funkeys. It would be ok if at least your child could play with the Funkeys they have for a decent amount of time. But my son fixates on having to clean his Funkey, and gets frustrated by how little play time you actually get on a Funkey.
Rip off if you ask me.
