Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
It's 2 toys in 1! As a sturdy, stable walker, the Step Start Walk 'n Ride toy helps babies learn to stand, take their first steps, and walk. As the grow older, it easily converts to a first ride-on toy! It has a locking mechanism that only parents can activate, so children can't change modes by themselves. Kids can explore the hands-on activities in both the walker and ride-on modes to see fascinating sights, hear silly sounds and touch interesting textures. Adult assembly required

Editorial Review
When little wobblers are bored with walls and sofa edges, and there's no one to offer a hand, they can two-foot it safely across that open ocean of living-room floor with the help of the Step Start walker. This dual-purpose toy acts as stable support as they learn to walk, then lets them roll along when they want to ride. Once they are secure on their legs, the walker converts easily to a first ride-on toy. (Only adults can operate the wheel-lock mechanism.) A flexible antenna, spinning drum, clicking gear, and other sight-touch-sound features provide sit-down play fun. Assembly requires a Phillips screwdriver. --Ava Natov

4 out of 5 stars He took off with it!   November 12, 2008
Well I had this toy with my 4 year old and got rid of it and got pregnant immediately. So this time I went to buy a 'walker' for my 9 month old at the consignment shop and this was the only one they had. As soon as I brought it home he pulled up and started pushing it. Yes, it is best for carpet (as most like this are), but it is light enough not to be an issue if it tips. Also my older child liked the ride on mode for awhile, but it did seem to get small for him quick. Though he is now dying to make my baby's into a ride on. Oh and to me it is very simple to change from ride on to walker. I like the rolly toy on top, as he can play with it while standing up with it. Overall definitely worth the $5 I paid at the consignment shop!

2 out of 5 stars Not for toddlers learning to walk   November 8, 2008
Bought this for my 13 month old as she has started cruising. Turn out the walker is so light, she could not hold on to it and walk without falling forward. She would play it for less than 5 minutes and not take a second look at it for the rest of the day.

Overall, I would not recommend this for toddlers learning to walk.

2 out of 5 stars Awkward toy   November 3, 2008
I got this toy for my daughter's 1st birthday, hoping that it would help her learn to walk and then be a fun ride-on toy for awhile after that. At that point she was too young to ride it but she wasn't really fond of walking it around either. She would kick the wheels and trip while trying to walk, and it seemed to roll too easily so it would just roll away from her faster than she could walk, leaving her flat on her face!

Now that she's old enough to ride it, it's too small! When she sits on it her leg movement is so restricted by the yellow handle in the front and the wheels that stick out in the back that she can't push with her feet very well and she just gets very angry.

So she's enjoyed putting toys in the little compartment in the front and spinning the toys attached in the back, but we didn't find it to work very well for either of its intended uses.

5 out of 5 stars We have owned this toy for 5 years & it is still working great!   October 28, 2008
We received this toy as a gift for my son's first birthday in 2003. He was just learning to walk and this really helped him build up the strength in his legs. He got more confident with it and faster and faster with this walker. It is also a nice toy to ride on because it is low to the ground. So if your little one loses his balance, he doesn't have far to fall. I have had 3 more children since we received this gift. My now 3 1/2 year old daughter also enjoyed practicing to walk with it. Her favorite thing to do was ride on it. My almost 2 year old LOVED this toy. He took quite a while to decide to walk so he played with this toy longer than the other 2. He would chase his brother and sister around and got really confident with this toy. We have friends over to play and all babies/toddlers really love playing with it. None of my kids have been as into the toys on the walker except for the compartment on the front where they can hide things. It does convert between riding and pushing very easily. Overall this is a great toy and after 5 years it still looks just as good as the day we got it!

4 out of 5 stars GREAT for Learning to Walk!!   October 20, 2008
Willow is crawling like a champ and walking isn't far behind. Since the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends AGAINST buying a walker, I got Willow this instead.

The thing I like about it is that it's simple. There isn't too much going on but enough to get her interested. She loves things that spin and this fits the bill for sure. And the thing I really like is that she'll be able to ride it in the future so it's versatile.
