Not much interest October 18, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this for my 33-month old son as his first introduction to lacing and I must say that I'm slightly disappointed. However, I think that if your child has already done some lacing in the past, then this would be more enjoyable for the child.
I have bought some lacing cards for him, and he seems to enjoy those more. I'm going to pull out this toy after a couple of months, and then update my review.
I think that this toy would encourage creativity in kids but may not be of much educational value, if they already know their shapes, numbers and colors. However, for an older child, say 4-5 years of age, I think the toy would help to reinforce some math concepts. I can see how it would be fun lacing the beads. I had a 4-yr old boy visit us and he seemed to like it, so age does matter.
colorful and fun August 31, 2008 My daughter (now 2.9) loves these. She makes necklaces as well as using the beads like blocks. Baby sister is attracted to them as well.
Perfect lacing beads August 27, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My daughter just turned two, but already enjoys playing with these beads. I love the bright colors and how chunky they are. It is easy for her little fingers.
The toy is fun, but quality could be better July 18, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My 2-year old son was interested in the toy from the moment he saw it. He enjoys stringing the beads and then dragging then around on the string. He can be entertained with it for quite a long time. The colors and shapes are fun and attractive.
The quality of the product leaves something to be desired. After playing with the beads on a hardwood floor for one evening, the paint has begun to rub off the edges of the pieces. The holes in the pieces are not sanded finely enough, so sometimes the string gets snagged when one tries to pull it through. Also, and I don't know if that is intentional, or if any other similar product does it differently, but the piece of the rope that is covered in plastic is too short: you have to hold the string about 1 inch away from the plastic covered part to fit it into the bead to be able to grab the string on the other end. An adult can do it of course, but it's hard to do for a 2-yo.

My granddaughter is 3 and loves these beads;they are easy for her to use, colorful, and durable. I have given my grandchildren other Melissa & Doug puzzles and games and they are some of their favorites.
